Payette Riverwalk

PROJECT UPDATE: Success! The necessary funds needed to purchase the 44-acre property have been raised, ensuring that it will never be developed. The purchase will happen this winter and be open to the public by the summer of 2022.

Payette River Walk Alliance (PRA) and Payette Land Trust (PLT) extend a huge THANK YOU to all the individuals who contributed to this endeavor. We could not have done this without you!

A Fundraising Campaign to Conserve 44 Acres of Riverfront Access

For the past few years, the Payette Land Trust has been partnering with landowners adjacent to a 44-acre riverfront property in an effort to conserve the space as a biological corridor and limited public access site.

The 44-acre lot, located along the North Fork of the Payette River south-west of McCall, would provide:

  • Trout-fishing access
  • A small system of walking/biking trails
  • Habitat for both game and non-game species
  • Important habitat connectivity for the river corridor
  • A take-out for water recreationists putting in upstream

Recently, the property was purchased by two conservation-minded individuals who are working with the PLT to place conservation easements that consider the property’s importance to the watershed, ecology and outdoor recreation. After the conservation easements are placed, the property will be sold to a 501c(3) called the Payette Riverwalk Alliance (PRA). The PRA was created with the purpose of owning and managing riverfront property for habitat, wildlife and limited public access.

The goal is to pursue a community-wide funding effort between local homeowners, interested agencies and conservation organizations. If successful, this would ensure non-development of the riverfront and solidify future wildlife habitat and recreational access to the river corridor.
